Old Babylonian Enthroned Goddess
Mesopotamia; Old Babylonian Period, 1800-1600 BC; Height 3.8 inches

The creme colored terracotta goddess wears a crown with multiple horns and a long flounced skirt. Her hair falls over her shoulders in two long braids. She sits on a throne, with her hands clasped in her lap and her bare feet rest on a foot stool. She may represent the Old Babylonian love and fertility goddess Ishtar. The front surface of this figurine was cast in a mold.
